Ecological Analytics
CEG translates data and information into knowledge and insights. We use spatial, statistical, and simulation methods to identify patterns and trends in ecological data, and help our clients better understand the implications of change in complex ecological systems.
-
Demography, abundance analyses
Habitat selection mapping
Population movement analyses
-
Spatial analyses of past landscape, habitat, and population change
Mapping potential climate, invasion, fire, disease impacts
Landscape projection
-
• Timeseries analysis
• Landscape metrics, pattern analysis
• Population responses to change
Information Integration
We’re data integrators. We merge information from multiple sources to help clients see the big picture. We identify the best available information to support models, near-term actions, as well as assess information gaps and needs.
-
Spatial integration of multiple maps, datasets
Data inventories
Meta-analysis
-
Literature review, compilation
Summaries of science documents
Information gap analysis
-
Client-run dashboards, tools, visualizations
Webinars, presentations
Peer-reviewed publications, plain-language translation
Customized Models & Tools
CEG specializes in creating models that simulate how populations respond to environmental changes. We build custom models that fit the available data and project objectives and are scientifically defensible.
We construct and compare alternative scenarios, to support decisions on project impacts and ecological returns on mitigation or conservation investments.
-
• Population viability analysis
• Habitat capacity analysis
• Landscape-population threshold detection
-
• Biologically-enhanced wildlife connectivity analysis
• Landscape connectivity
-
• Co-designed model scenarios
• Designed to integrate with real-world planning
• Simulate actions that can minimize impacts or recover species
Unique Skillset
Experts in HexSim
CEG Inc. houses the world’s leading experts in the HexSim modeling platform. HexSim is a life history simulator ideal for building models of animal and plant population viability, interactions, and responses to disturbance. HexSim models are spatially-explicit and individual-based, and simulated individuals can be assigned dynamic life history traits. This novel tool also includes a full genetics sub-model, making it a true eco-evo simulator.
